QNB

The QNB sonic identity brings sound to the heart of the bank’s brand expression. Designed by Sixième Son, this sonic system blends regional musical heritage with modern composition to express trust, innovation, and global connectivity, creating a distinctive audio signature across every customer touchpoint. The project reflects QNB’s ambition to strengthen differentiation and emotional connection through a first sonic identity inspired by both tradition and modernity.

A BANK  FOR GENERATIONS

Challenge

As the largest financial institution in the Middle East and Africa and one of the highest-rated banks globally, Qatar National Bank was the country’s first Qatari-owned commercial bank.

Since its establishment in 1964, innovation has been a part of its DNA, pioneering many firsts and helping shape the region’s banking landscape.

In line with its commitment to continuous innovation and pushing boundaries, QNB decided to take a bold step forward by creating its first-ever sonic branding, designed to differentiate itself in a competitive global market, create a more immersive brand universe, forge deeper connection, strengthen engagement and inspire customers for generations to come, in Qatar and beyond.

Sonic concept

Rooted in QNB’s brand persona: The Sage—a figure of insight, wisdom, expertise, and unwavering trust, the sonic identity reflects the brand’s position as a trusted advisor and its commitment to being a forward-thinking financial partner for its customers.

A blend of traditional instruments such as the oud, kanun, and ney, with contemporary arrangements using modern synthesizers, this fusion creates a soundscape that feels both familiar and forward-looking – mirroring QNB’s ambition to honor its heritage and legacy, while embracing and shaping the future. An international version was also developed, featuring a global aesthetic for a universal appeal.

The QNB sonic identity also reflects the flows and exchanges that define QNB’s identity as an international connector; Much like the bank’s visual logo—where all paths lead to and from Qatar—the music follows a wave-like structure – a dynamic expression of QNB’s role in bridging markets, people, and opportunities.

Outcome

Designed as a storytelling tool, the QNB sonic identity was extended into a digital library with multiple energy levels and emotional variations.

These adaptations, including high-energy and festive Eid and Ramadan versions, allow the brand to communicate consistently across social media and touchpoints.

Sound, more than visuals, activates memory and emotion; integrating the sonic identity across key customer interactions transforms routine moments into recognizable branded experiences, strengthening recognition, differentiation, and emotional engagement.
